TRIBE-olution_cropTRIBE-olution explores the origins of contemporary hip hop dance (breakdance or “b-boying”) in traditional African, Brazilian-Capoeira, and Kung Fu arts. Cross-cultural connections are illustrated through choreography of single- and multi-genre scenes. Accompanied by live music and/or DJ, the show comes as a music & dance concert or dance theatre.

Artistic Director

  • Rob Pastorok – Rob Pastorok is a keyboardist, producer/director, and owner of Deep Well Studio. He received a 2014 Artists Trust award.  For TRIBE-olution and Global Heat projects, he has also received funding from 4Culture, Theatre Puget Sound, and City of Seattle.


TRIBE-olution is based in the Seattle, WA (USA) area and originated as a spin-off of a June 2012 theatre performance “Roots of Hip Hop in Ancient Cultures” funded by the City of Seattle’s Next 50 program. TRIBE-olution was funded by Theatre Puget Sound in 2013 to produce a featured event in their Arts Crush Festival.  4Culture and Artist Trust Group Arts Project (GAP) awards supported development of choreography.

Individual members of the TRIBE-olution ensemble represent leaders in the Northwest arts scene who have been recognized regionally and internationally for their artistic excellence.
